April Events in the South Bay

April is a month of warmer temperatures, wetter weather, and the calm before the storm of summer. Though it’s a quieter month around here with Spring Break vacationers and not too many official events, there’s plenty to busy yourself in the greater South bay area.

Celebrate Earth Day (April 22) with a bit of community service project by signing up for Heal the Bay’s “Nothin’ But Sand” Beach Cleanup on April 16. Of course, you can clean the beach every day with a purposeful garbage-hunting walk, but the 300-participant cleanup is an excellent way to give back and make new connections. You can also support local small business and farm-to-table eating by visiting the South Bay Farmer’s Markets. Come to Manhattan on Tuesday, Hermosa on Friday, and Redondo on Thursday (Esplanade) and Sunday (Riviera).

Hermosa locals can check out the Spyder Surf Fest and Walk of Fame Induction Ceremony on April 22. Fans of Hermosa Beach Little League, movies, and music should head to Little League Night at Clark Field to enjoy a small concert and a family-friendly movie on the lawn.

The most unique and exciting event happening in April comes on the last day of the month. Manhattan Beach has rapidly enhanced community culture by featuring public murals by local artists throughout the city. The artist Josh Barnes, who was commissioned with the Manhattan Beach Art Center mural, invites preteens through adults to assist in painting his mural. The whole town is welcome! Read about it here, and don’t miss out on the chance to take part in the making of history.
